Table of contents

When investing in a website, it is important to remember that in addition to the basic cost of designing and developing the site, there is also the need to cover the maintenance of the page. How much does it cost? What is included in the cost of maintaining a website? To avoid surprises, read on!

Annual website maintenance – what do you have to pay for?

Please note! The prices presented below refer to renewal after one year of the website’s existence; companies usually offer very large discounts for the first year of the website’s operation.

The two most important elements that we usually pay for annually are:

Hosting – otherwise known as a server, or the space where your website and its files are located.

Domain – your website address (the one you enter in your browser), which allows your customers to find the page easily, e.g. “deepwaterdigital.eu”.

Hosting (server)

This cost depends on many factors. However, in general, for smaller and simple websites, it will be from about $45 to $180 net per year. In the case of e-commerce (online stores), however, we will pay from $120 net upwards for sufficient hosting, depending on the number of products, the size of the store, and the average number of people visiting the store at the same time.

Domain (website address)

A domain is usually cheaper than hosting, with the cheapest options starting at around $30 net per year for a .com or .eu domain, and the upper limit approx. $85 net.

The cost here will also depend on the domain we have.

Optional additional costs

Apart from the domain and hosting, we may encounter other website maintenance costs, but these are not usually necessary for the website to function, and only enhance its capabilities. These costs include:

SSL certificate – website security through data encryption. We can always opt for a free Let’s Encrypt certificate, thus minimising costs without compromising security;

CDN (Content Delivery Network) – allows you to reduce the loading time of the website by loading it on the server closest to the visitor geographically;

In addition, although not directly related to the website, it is worth considering purchasing an email package to have a secure email address with your domain. This type of service is provided for example by Microsoft, Google, or Proton. In rare cases, you also have to pay for subscriptions for software used by the website, e.g., newsletter support, a custom website management system, or other.

Summary

For the most popular business websites, maintenance costs range from approximately $75 to $265 per year, depending on the company you choose. The more complex the website, the higher the maintenance costs.

As always, we encourage you to familiarise yourself with our offer – the annual maintenance cost for OnePage websites for our customers is $110 net! The first year is already included in the price of the website.
